Our inventory database supports all functions related to control and accounting of barcode-labeled equipment. This includes monitoring of material moved into and out of stockroom locations and inventory count reconciliation.
Logistics management is a major issue for companies which send technicians out each morning with a truck full of expensive company assets. Most equipment will get installed at customer locations. Sometimes it is swapped out, and at times equipment cannot be installed.

Companies must keep accurate inventory records for items in the warehouse and account for inventory installed at customer sites. Knowing who has checked out which equipment each morning & which asset is returned each evening is a critical inventory software feature.
This inventory database template is a warehouse software solution developed for cable television and satellite television installers. The database employs barcode entry - speeding equipment inventory management.
|
NEW! Now you can also track bulk items such as connectors and LNBs ($1,200). |
The major inventory management functions are as follows:
Add Warehouse Inventory Items
Issue Inventory to Technicians
Log Returned Items Back to Inventory
Warehouse Inventory Summary Report
Inventory Reports Menu
List Maintenance
Our Access inventory management system is very easy to use as can be seen from screen shots below. Inventory management template welcome screen follows:
As you'll see the user interface is very simple - no popup forms, no switchboards.
A key function in inventory management process is entering new equipment into inventory.
Each asset (device) has a unique bar code - this enables us to design a simple user interface for entering new equipment as well as checking out equipment. Barcode scanners are easy to add to any database because they act just like keyboard input therefore the database doesn't know or care that you are using barcode labels and scanners.
In the warehouse inventory database below, the only field that is entered by the user is the barcode field - this is swiped from the actual barcode on the piece of equipment or the box. All other fields are given appropriate default values which may be overridden by the user.
The inventory software makes extensive use of barcode entry. Each asset contains a unique serial number. Entry of new equipment
entails defining the Corporation (Corp) who owns equipment (Cross Island Cable
installs devices for several cable companies). Next, the type of
device being put into inventory - in this case we are logging a shipment of
HDTV Converters.
Each morning many technicians arrive to pick up their daily installation schedule and load equipment onto their trucks. The next screen provides for identification of technician and allows the operator to scan the barcode-labeled equipment. The result is that equipment are assigned to each technician quickly and accurately:
After all equipment is scanned the operator can press a button to set
date/status/tech for each device. Then, print a report that will be taken
by the tech to job sites.
Below is the Assets Issued report that each technician takes to the field. As equipment is installed or replace the Account Number is filled in. At the end of the day the database is updated with the account information. Accuracy is improved by scanning the barcode on the report.
This warehouse inventory report lists detailed inventory status for Issue, damaged and warehouse equipment items. Note again the barcode equipment identifier which speeds scanning for returned items.
Daily, technicians often have pieces of equipment to return to
the warehouse with a status of stock or perhaps broken.
The operator can simply scan barcodes for those items on the technician's printout and scan the serial number barcode of those items being returned for repair or to be placed in stock.
At the end of the day the database is updated with the account information. Accuracy is improved by scanning
the barcode on the report. All issued assets are account for during this process.
And, any issue sheet can be
displayed by selecting the issue date. Also, all issued assets may be selected for each technician, or for a particular date
or by both criteria. This one screen replaced several screens seen in other inventory manager database designs.
All equipment from a given technician can be entered simply by swiping the barcode label from their equipment sheet or the piece of equipment itself when there are equipment returns.
This inventory form is used for management of returned devices:
One key aspect to nearly all of our database designs is flexibility. We achieve flexibility by having as
much of the database list-driven. All lists are infinitely expandable and therefore a database can grow as your company
expands.
The screen below shows that new equipment categories can be added with simple addition of list entries. The
same flexibility in design carries over to corporation, statuses, technicians and reports.
